Negroponte not rough enough

NPR’s intelligence correspondent just said that John Negroponte’s problem as Director of National Intelligence was that he was “ever the diplomat,” and the job called for someone with “rougher edges.” I guess you could say it was his “diplomacy” which prompted Senator Dodd to say:
