In 7 states, Muslims are more literate-India-NEWS-The Times of India
The states are: AP, Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Orissa and Tamil Nadu.
It would be interesting to see urban/rural breakdowns and comparisons with those states where the situation is reverse. The three southern states, and probably Gujarat, are ones where there is a huge disparity between the cities and country. The cities are far ahead of national standards and northern cities – in terms of education, technology, and so on, while the rural areas are far behind. AP, at least, has one of the lowest literacy rates in the nation. In all of these states, the Muslims are concentrated in urban areas, and have more or less benefitted from government allocation of development resources and private investment in the cities. In short, the Muslims of Hyderabad may be behind their Hindu neighbors, but they’re doing better than those in Rayalseema.
