Huh. I just noticed – thanks to Header Spy – that this site, and the rest of wordpress.com, is now reaching you marginally faster (not an official benchmark) and freer thanks to a switch to nginx from LiteSpeed. Nginx – pronounced “engine x” is a slick little lightweight webserver from Russia poised to take over the world any day now. No official word from WP, but the closest thing says, based on an interview from a few months ago, that the main motivation to ditch LiteSpeed was the license.
After pausing to say “Oooh, nginx! How cool is that?” I immediately opened the Header Spy page info dialog to see if they kept the X-hacker header. It’s still there, which is pretty neat as I think there’s may be the only major site where I specifically remember a humorous X-header as being from a particular site. In case you haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil the fun for you – though don’t get too excited over the message, it’s quite ancient. Of course, if you follow up and it works for you, let me know, I’m pretty much available.
